Katie's first blog post ever!

Hello, people who read this. I have never blogged, but know that it is potentially a very effective teaching tool. I'm not sure how I could use blogging as a tool in my teaching with very young children, however. The students I've worked with were younger than 8 years old. These students are having a hard time learning to write and to include periods at the end of their sentences (those who actually know what a sentence is. Somehow, I don't see Farol using blogs as an approved small- or large-group activity).
I could easily see how students would benefit from this tool when they are older than my students have been. Once students can effectively communicate through writing, I could definitely see a blog being very beneficial.
However, I could see myself blogging with the students' parents very easily. Blogging is definitely a great way to keep in contact with the people who are very influential in the lives of students. This low-pressure and very easy way to communicate with parents could easily keep them up-to-date on the schooltime activities of their children, upcoming subjects, and feel much more connected to their child's schooling than would be possible otherwise.
Basically, blogging is good, kids are great, and keeping contact with parents is the best.
