I found that evaluating websites is a good idea, and that many sites that I thought were really great had some slight problems. The forms I used were pretty good, but the differences were quite obvious. One had a scale that I really liked. It appointed a rating to the website based on the completeness of features. I thought it was a really good way to make sure that you don't just dismiss several possibly negative points.
One interesting thing I found was that no one seems to post a revision date or original publication date on their websites. I found that some sites I thought were very up to date might not be that fresh.
I think evaluating websites is a good exercise for students to learn what they can trust online. Too many people just trust everything they read online, simply because it was written. The thing is, online you can find things that say the exact opposite of generally accepted views. It's important for students to learn which sites are reliable so they don't end up believing complete lies.
I think I will evaluate websites more often, now. When I'm just poking around online, though, I would say I'm quite unlikely to evaluate a site. For research papers, resources, and recommending sites to others, though, I will probably evaluate them from now on.
